Business Name: Kirk & Treens Wedding Photography
What are your names and what do you do? How many years have you been in business?
Kirk and Katrina (whose nickname is Treens) and we’re wedding photographers in the beautiful Sunshine Coast hinterland.
We’ve been shooting solely weddings for over 4 years now, but shot many other genres before that.
Tell us about why you decided to do what you do?
We have both always loved photography and did it as a bit of a hobby. Friends and family had originally asked us to shoot weddings, which was a ton of fun and we really enjoyed the creativity it brought us and the joy it brought to our couples. Also, working together is really wonderful… J
What do you love most about your business?
That’s easy! Our KT-couples! We make a point of really getting to know our couples and building a relationship with them. It’s really important to us to do this for a few reasons. Firstly, we love to meet new people and make new friends and secondly, we think it makes a HUGE difference to the photos we take of them. Our couples are so relaxed with us and that always makes for more genuine emotions and their true personalities always shine through. This way, our couples receive images that they connect with and treasure as opposed to some over-posed and less meaningful picture with them in it. We also love being a part of such a joyful milestone in their lives – it’s really a positive, happy and very special job (if you can call it a job ;)! The other thing we love is creating memories for our couples. Not just pretty photos but actual printed memories that they and their families can treasure for years to come! We just LOVE making wedding albums for our couples.
What do you want people to remember about the service you provide?
Aside from our unique Kirk & Treens style of photos, it’s very much about the whole experience with us. We want our couples to remember that we valued them, loved them and worked our butts off so that their day was extra-extra amazing! We want our couples to remember that we went above and beyond just being photographers – we never want to settle for being just their wedding photographers.
Tell us about yourselves. What are your hobbies? What is one fun fact about you?
We have been happily married for 13 lovely years and have a 2-year-old son who is a little sweetheart. Our home is on 2.5 acres in Maleny on the Sunshine Coast Hinterland with our chookie-girls and cat! We both love the outdoors, camping, gardening and Bunnings.
Kirk loves his coffee, camera and computer stuff, mowing the lawn and working on home projects (check out our blog for a few of these). Treens loves to read while enjoying a glass of red and paint.
If you could pick one word that describes your business, what would it be?
Share your favourite photo of you or your work? Describe why this is your favourite?
This photo really captures our style and what we aim for with our couples. Our couples tell us that they love our images and booked with us because they see genuine emotions and personality in our images. Not just awesome pictures with a couple smiling at the camera, but real emotions they see their actual personalities (or their spouses personality) whether it’s shy, quirky or crazy! : Vibrant, emotional and candid. We aim for consistency. So when you see our images in a magazine or social media, it’s obvious that it’s a K&T image.
This is what sums up Kirk & Treens Wedding Photography:
We make beautiful couples
LOOK and FEEL amazing
on the first day of their
new life together.
What would be your top tip for new Brides and Grooms planning their big day?
When planning your budget, don’t skimp on the big items! Think about what means the most to you and your fiancé, and also what is going to last beyond the few hours of your wedding day and invest in that. You really do get what you pay for and it’s not worth taking a risk on these things. We’ve heard WAY TOO MANY horror stories from married couples about their wedding photographers and that they have very little to show for their wedding day. It makes us really sad to hear. Please don’t skimp on the things that matter and will matter in 10 or 20 years from now.
