Where and when did you get married?

What made you choose your location and was it everything you expected?

For us it was a mixture of our personalities being quiet, country feeling but not too far of a drive and we could have it all done at one place! EG. Ceremony, photos, reception.

And most importantly they had a great wet weather option in case of bad weather. I couldn’t stress enough that I wanted to not loose out on the prettiness and intimacy of the ceremony just because its raining or windy ect. A lot places we went to either didn’t have one and said to ‘hope for the best’, or just said ‘we just bring you inside here’ which could be a random room somewhere that has no character or even amongst your reception layout which I definitely did not want to happen.

When you think back to your wedding day, what’s the one thing that you loved the most (apart from marrying your hubby!!)?

The feeling of everyone coming together. We had family and friends from as far as England and from all over Australia, and its lovely to bring people together to not only celebrate our wedding, but so they can enjoy being together for the first time in a very long time.

I also really loved thanking the people that have been there for us and showed their support of our relationship, eg bridesmaids, groomsman, family ect.

Your wedding day was wonderful, but if there was one thing/detail you could change about it, what would it be?

I would spend more time on ME! I spent a lot of time worrying about colours, and bridesmaids shoes and cake, and making sure the bridal party were sorted and everything else that goes with the wedding, I kind of put myself on the back burner. Its definitely important to be a little, I guess, ‘selfish’ sometimes (probably not a great word but..) to ensure that you too are getting want you would like out of it all.

What was the best advice you received whilst planning that helped you?

GET HELP! You cant do it on your own and you probably know people who have amazing talents that can take the stress away and help. I would have been lost without all my talented and organised helpers! I am a control freak so it was hard to let go, but it HAD to be done or I would have never got it done.

ORDERING ONLINE! Despite what some people might think, I found some AMAZING things online and at half the price, and not half the quality providing you shop around and do your research. This only works however if you start early, as you have to allow for postage, possible incorrect orders, mess ups where you may need to order again ect. People thought I was crazy as I started ordering some things for the reception 14 months out, and compiled them in a large box, but thank goodness I did as it all came together magically without a hitch! And at a fraction of the cost of just running around the shops trying to get things a month or two out! It also helps with budgeting, as you buy a thing or two each month rather than all at once.

MONEY! Things cost money when you mention wedding, so best to just accept it and move on right at the start of the planning. But at the same time, don’t accept the first price your given. If you have time and resources, shop around and ask your friends for referrals to places/services/people they have used or been to, as sometimes it might cost slightly more but a good referral goes a long way and usually comes with trust.

From asking around with friends and family I found the venue, celebrant (amazing by the way), someone to make our bouquets, a dress alterer, a photographer and a cake maker. All people that friends or family knew, or that I knew, that you can not only trust but that will do an amazing job as then you too can refer them and a good referral is GOLD!

Please share your top 3 tips for future brides to make the most of the planning and the experience of their big day?

1. Start planning early. This helps with everything from budgeting to stress levels. Booking a date 15 months ahead, get the idea of what you want and start straight away!!

2. Look for talented and amazing people. We looked amongst our friends and family and found some amazing services that were cost effective, trust worthy and great at what they do! When there’s trust, it takes so much of the stress away as its one less thing you have to worry about!

3. Don’t fear about ordering online. This was one of my biggest fears but if you do it right, its the best thing ever. We saved so much time and money by doing this, but you cant do this successfully unless your committed to number 1, start the planning as soon as that date is fixed!
